Through a strategy of forming partnerships, making a targeted acquisition and investing in its technology and production base, Bangladesh’s Beximco Pharmaceuticals is aiming to become a significant global player, the company’s senior management explained in an exclusive interview.

In handing Beximco Pharmaceuticals its ‘Best Company in an Emerging Market’ award last year, Generics Bulletin’s sister publication, Scrip, recognised the considerable progress made by the Bangladesh-based manufacturer over the past couple of years. Having achieved a major strategic goal in August 2016 by commencing exports of its first finished product, carvedilol tablets, to the US, the publicly-listed firm has since passed milestones that have included starting exports to Canada, forming its first overseas collaboration with Malaysia-based BioCare Manufacturing, and strengthening its domestic presence through the company’s first-ever acquisition, a deal that saw it taking majority control of Bangladeshi hormones and steroids specialist Nuvista Pharma.
